SAMAXI | SHEKI | LAHIJ TOUR

Samaxi (Shamaha) is a a little, quiet and tasteful city in the capital of the Shamakhi Rayon of Azerbaijan. The city has a rich historical heritage for two thousand years.

The Gulistan fortress was originally constructed in the 8th-9th centuries and rebuilt in the 12th-13th centuries. At the foot of Gulistan Fortress is located Yeddi Gumbez (Seven Domes) Mausoleum. There are Juma Mosque - most ancient mosques in the South Caucasus.

In its history eleven major earthquakes have rocked Shemakha, but through multiple reconstructions it maintained its role as the economic and administrative capital of Shirvan and one of the key towns on the Silk Road.

Sheki is Azerbaijan’s true travel gem, a small city off on the forested slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains. There are rich in Islamic architecture, Silk Road history, good food, and friendly people. The most popular place in Sheki is Sheki Khan Palace.

Sheki Khan Palace was constructed in 1761-1762 as a summer residence of Hussein-khan Mushtad Who was a grandson of Gadzhi Chelebi. The unique beauty two-storied building of the palace amazes with its magnificent interior and exterior. In the center of the palace is a huge stained-glass window from a multi-colored glass mosaic. The walls of the palace are richly painted with anecdotal drawings displaying scenes of hunting and war as well as intricate geometrical and vegetative patterns.

Lahij (Lagich) built in the 5th century B.C. on the canyon of the river Girdimanchai. The village is small, but very picturesque. The territory is recognized as a cultural reserve and is considered a popular touristic destination of the Great Silk Road.

Lahij has preserved its trade and craft center up to now. You can meet there unique hand-made items from copper, adorned with carving in the form of oriental ornaments, knitted and weaved goods, wood and leather ware, souvenir knives and many other.
